Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation home experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • Summer time is high season in the Wilmington, NC area. To find the best value, consider shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Wilmington, NC area visitors guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Wilmington, NC area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Choosing and booking the perfect Wilmington, NC rental home:

  • Start by having your family decide on vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. 4BD Oceanfront Beach Bungalow has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the host before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.

More considerations:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
  • To make certain no damages are attributed to your family's stay, note any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the rental manager immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches. See for yourself by scanning the QR code and call Victory Beach Vacations at 910.458.0868 to book your Cape Fear getaway. Start making your memories today! —Grace Silipigni
