Availability varies by home listing, and during the summer season, memberships may sell out quickly. Additionally, the Bald Head Island ferry system is independently operated and not affiliated with BHI Vacations. To ensure a smooth arrival and departure, we encourage guests to book ferry and tram reservations well in advance.

When to book & When to go:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are high season in the Wilmington, NC area. Booking in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses.
