Our top Rental property booking tips:

Getting the most from your rental home budget:

  • To find the largest vacation home within budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at Wilmington, NC restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Wilmington, NC area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides have discounts for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Begin by selecting your a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Oceanfront home across the street from the beach with WiFi, AC, W/D, and deck has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available online. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before booking your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Document any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good ratings to propel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
