Our top Oak Island rental property booking tips and tricks:

When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Wilmington, NC area. To get the best value, change your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Wilmington, NC area visitor guide magazines which include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Selecting the perfect vacation home in the Wilmington, NC area:

  • To start, have your family select trip dates and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Kiki Hut: Great Ocean Views with a Reverse Floor Plan and Swimming Pool has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available online. If they are not listed, call the host before you book your home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your group.
  • Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Upon arrival, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to compel new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
