Tips and Tricks to get the optimal vacation property experience:

Finding your best deal:

  • In the Wilmington, NC area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • June, July, and August are high season in the Wilmington, NC area. To get the best value, consider changing your family's Wilmington, NC vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Wilmington, NC area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Selecting the perfect rental home:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Oceanfront screened porch & private walkway to beach, 3 outdoor showers & WiFi has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible online. Otherwise, call the host before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is right for your family.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .

More tips for your stay:

  • Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of problems.
  • Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect your property!
  • During check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be respectful. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a fantastic vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
