Vacation rental home tips and tricks:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • To find the best value, shift your family's Wilmington, NC vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Wilmington, NC area travel guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Wilmington, NC visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Choose vacation week and budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Renovated w/ Modern Amenities Near Oak Island Pier has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before reserving your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.

More considerations:

  • Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • During arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Be respectful. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches. See for yourself by scanning the QR code and call Victory Beach Vacations at 910.458.0868 to book your Cape Fear getaway. Start making your memories today! —Grace Silipigni
