Strategies to get the best Wilmington, NC vacation home experience:

When to visit Oak Island & When to book:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer time is high season in Oak Island. To book the largest rental within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at Wilmington, NC restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Wilmington, NC area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have coupons for local tours and attractions.

  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you reserve your home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what configuration is right for your trip.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.
  • If there's an individual Wilmington, NC beach you love, look for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .

Tips for a great stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Keep your property safe!
  • To ensure that no damages are linked to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. message the rental manager immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to drive more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective.
