Our top Vacation rental tips and tricks:

When to book & When to go:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are high season in Oak Island. To find the best vacation home within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at Wilmington, NC restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain discounts for local accommodations and attractions.

How to choose the best vacation home in Oak Island:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Sweet and Salty: Coastal Home Near Veteran Parks and the 20th Street Marsh Walk has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property management company before booking the property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly rental. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a specific Wilmington, NC beach you crave, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.

More tips for your visit:

  • Add the owner's information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • To make certain no damages are linked to your family's visit, record any problem areas during check in. message the rental manager right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a excellent time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
