Tricks and tips to get the best Wilmington, NC vacation rental experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • To get the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Wilmington, NC attractions and restaurants.
  • Some property managers offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have coupons for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Choose vacation dates and maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Two Buoys And A Gull: Private Pier, Floating Dock Ideal for Fishing or Kayaking has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before you reserve your rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or might be applied to your agreement.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking

More tips for your stay:

  • Add the owner's contact info to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Upon check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
