Vacation rental booking tips:

When to go & When to reserve a Oak Island rental home:

  • In the Wilmington, NC area, The sooner your group can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • To find the best value, shift your family's Wilmington, NC vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Wilmington, NC area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and select a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. 7BR/6.5BA - Oceanfront, POOL w/ Heating Capability, ELEVATOR, Sleeps 19 has 7 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before you book the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish which bed configuration is optimal for your trip.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or may be applied to your contract.
  • Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.

Tips to have a fantastic stay:

  • Add the host's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many concerns.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
  • Make a record of any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if damages are assessed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peace. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a wonderful time? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
