Tips to get the best Wilmington, NC rental experience:

Find your perfect rental:

  • The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Summertime is high season in the Wilmington, NC area. Booking your vacation home in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Booking websites often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Narrow your Search:

  • Select a group lead, choose your dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Amazing 2nd-row home steps from beach access with game room, AC & W/D has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before you book your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or charges could be applied to your invoice.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.

During your stay:

  • We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • At Check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Upon check-out, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a fantastic time? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
