Tricks and tips to get the optimal rental experience:

Get the best rental value:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer time is high season in the Wilmington, NC area. Book your Wilmington, NC rental property in Fall or Spring months to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Some hosts offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property management companies usually offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain offers and deals for local shops and restaurants.

Make a plan and pick a perfectrental:

  • To start, have your group decide on a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Awesome ocean and canal Views! Short stroll to the beach! Lovely coastal decor!! has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking websites. If not, call the host before booking the vacation home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking

Some things to know before you go:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to stimulate more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your experience find their best rental home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
