Strategies for getting the perfect Oak Island vacation property experience:

When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:

  • Summertime is high season in the Wilmington, NC area. Reserve your Wilmington, NC rental property in the Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Wilmington, NC area travel guide magazines that include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Wilmington, NC visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Select a group leader, select your dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Brand-New 5BR 3.5BA House, Ocean Views, Elevator, Pool, Dog Friendly, Sleeps 17 has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before booking the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If there's a particular Wilmington, NC attraction you long to visit, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.

Tips for a great stay:

  • Add the property manager's information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To make sure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on good feedback to propel future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches. See for yourself by scanning the QR code and call Victory Beach Vacations at 910.458.0868 to book your Cape Fear getaway. Start making your memories today! —Grace Silipigni
