Our top Wilmington vacation rental home tips and tricks:

When to book & When to go:

  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer time is high season in the Wilmington, NC area. Book your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Often, management companies supply Wilmington, NC area visitors guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Wilmington, NC area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Advice for a great stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • At Check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good feedback to compel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
