Booking the best vacation property experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • To get the best value, consider changing your family's Wilmington, NC vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Booking your rental up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Look for your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides have money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.

How to pick the best vacation rental:

  • Start by having your group select date ranges and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. High End Luxury Ocean Front Living, Roof Top Deck and Elevator! has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. If not, call the host before reserving the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or could be applied to your agreement.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • To make certain that no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Get in touch with the rental manager right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peace. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a great time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
