Tricks and tips to get the best Wilmington, NC rental home experience:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Booking in the Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • In the Wilmington, NC area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers typically offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have discounts for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Selecting and booking a perfect Wilmington, NC vacation home:

  • Start by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Unique Houseboat in Port City Marina Wilmington, NC has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking pages. If not, email the property owner before booking the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what is right for your family.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.

More considerations:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
  • Document any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be respectful. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
  • Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a wonderful stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
