Our top Rental home tips and tricks:

When to visit Oak Island & When to book:

  • In the Wilmington, NC area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in Oak Island. To find the most suitable rental home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Some owners offer discounts for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Make a plan and choose your prefectrental:

  • Begin by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Aloha -- Pet Friendly Beach House with dock and Incredible Marsh and Creek View has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. If not, email the host before booking the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is right for your vacation group.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or charges might be applied to your contract.
  • Does your group require special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking

Tips for a fantastic stay:

  • Add the property manager's information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • During arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent source for finding the best local beaches.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
