Finding the best Wilmington vacation rental experience:

Finding your perfect vacation home:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Narrow your Search:

  • First, have your group decide on dates and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Original details in a 1950's fun ranch on the municipal golf course! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before you book the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of concerns.
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Record any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
  • Respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a fantastic stay? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
