Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Wilmington, NC vacation home experience:

When to reserve a Wilmington, NC rental home & When to go:

  • The sooner your group can book, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • Booking your Wilmington, NC vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Selecting the perfect vacation home in the Wilmington, NC area:

  • Start by selecting your the best vacation week and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Pet friendly, short walk to beach, super clean has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Wilmington, NC rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible online. If not, reach out to the property management company before you book the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what bed configuration is right for your trip.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Get information on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .

More considerations:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of problems.
  • Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peace. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a terrific stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
