Strategies to get the optimal vacation property experience:

Finding your perfect rental:

  • Summer is high season in the Wilmington, NC area. Book your Wilmington, NC vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Planning, selecting, and booking your prefect Wilmington, NC rental home:

  • To start, have your family agree to the best dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. The Corsair-a pet-friendly, five-bedroom, 4.5-bath Maritime Forest retreat! has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Wilmington, NC rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible online. If they are not listed, email the property management company before you book the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If there's a specific Wilmington, NC beach you are enamored with, look for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
  • Upon check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
