Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Oak Island rental experience:

Get the best rental value:

  • In the Wilmington, NC area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • June, July, and August are high season in the Wilmington, NC area. Booking your Wilmington, NC vacation home in the Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have discounts for nearby accommodations and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • First and foremost, have your family commit to a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. Tres Pajaritos: Ocean View Condo Close to Community Pool and Grilling Area has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before you reserve your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Does your group require specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many concerns.
  • Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
  • Upon arrival, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to inspire new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
