Tips for getting the perfect vacation home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Wilmington, NC area. Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked early. Booking your vacation property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have offers and deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Selecting the perfect rental home:

  • Select vacation dates and budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration you need. Welcome to Happy Honu has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before you reserve your home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what is optimal for your vacation family.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or could be applied to your contract.

Have a great stay:

  • Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your visit, make note of any problem areas during check in. E-mail the rental manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of problems.
  • Be respectful. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a wonderful time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches. See for yourself by scanning the QR code and call Victory Beach Vacations at 910.458.0868 to book your Cape Fear getaway. Start making your memories today! —Grace Silipigni
