Tips for getting the best rental experience:

Finding the best rental value:

  • Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To get the best value, try shifting your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have discounts for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Start by choosing your trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Wingspan: Modern, Elegant Home Close to the Intracoastal Waterway has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before booking the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what is best for your vacation group.
  • Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or charges may be applied to your contract.

During your stay:

  • We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone.
  • During arrival, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic source for finding the best local attractions.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a great time? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
