  • Summer time is high season in Oak Island. To get the best value, shift your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Some owners offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Advice for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few issues.
  • Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
  • Document any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on great ratings to propel new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
