Tips to get the best Wilmington, NC rental home experience:

Getting the most from your rental budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the best value, shift your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • In the Wilmington, NC area, The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Wilmington, NC visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on local shops and restaurants.

Choosing the best vacation home in the Wilmington, NC area:

  • To start, have your family select dates and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Paradise: Beautiful views with this 4th floor oceanfront condo has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you book the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what configuration is suitable for your family.
  • Does your group require specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.

Have a great stay:

  • Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • During check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of problems.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Upon check-out, take a walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a terrific time? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
