Tips and Tricks to get the very best vacation home experience:

Get the most from your budget:

  • In the Wilmington, NC area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Wrightsville Beach. Reserve your Wilmington, NC rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Wilmington, NC area visitor guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Wilmington, NC area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning and picking the perfectvacation home:

  • Choose vacation week and budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Traditional sound front cottage w historic charm! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before reserving the rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Does your family require special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.

More considerations:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • During arrival, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a wonderful time? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.

The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
