Strategies to get the optimal Wilmington, NC rental home experience:

Get the most from your rental budget:

  • To find the best vacation home within your budget, we recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Wilmington, NC attractions. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • In the Wilmington, NC area, The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Booking websites typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Many property management companies supply Wilmington, NC area visitors guide magazines that include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Wilmington, NC visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Selecting the perfect rental home:

  • Select a group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Ocean Views, Balcony, Pool, STEPS to Beach Restaurants Shops has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before you book the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
  • Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a excellent vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
