Tips for getting the best Wilmington, NC rental experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your rental home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Reserve your rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wilmington, NC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines contain deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Select your vacation week and budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration you need. Lower level duplex in heart of Wrightsville Beach! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Wilmington, NC rentals search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before booking the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.

More tips for your stay:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many issues.
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas during arrival. Call the property manager right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
